Ooredoo Fintech enables PayPal integration in the Maldives through mFaisaa, allowing users to seamlessly receive USD payments

Ooredoo Fintech has extended PayPal services in the Maldives through an integration with mFaisaa, Ooredoo’s digital wallet, announced today at a ceremony held at Barcelos Nasandhura. This marks a major milestone in the nation’s digital transformation journey, expanding access to global digital financial services for individuals and businesses across the country.

The integration allows eligible users in the Maldives to securely link their PayPal and mFaisaa accounts, making it easier to receive USD payments, transfer funds from PayPal to their mFaisaa wallet and access those funds locally.

By enabling access to global payment flows, the service empowers freelancers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses to expand beyond local markets, receive USD payments from international customers to their PayPal accounts, and participate more confidently in global commerce.

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, stated:

“Today, with the enablement of PayPal services in the Maldives through mFaisaa, we deliver on a key pledge made to the people of the Maldives and take a significant step forward in our Maldives 2.0 vision. This milestone creates new opportunities for Maldivians to access global markets, participate in international commerce, and grow beyond our shores. By enabling secure and seamless digital payments, we are removing barriers to opportunity and empowering our people to compete and succeed in the global digital economy. I commend Ooredoo Maldives, Ooredoo Fintech, and PayPal for their partnership and dedication in bringing this service to the Maldives. Their collaboration has helped make a long-standing aspiration a reality for our people and demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when innovation, investment, and national ambition come together.”

Ahmad Al-Naema, Group Regional Chief Executive Officer at Ooredoo Group, stated:

“At Ooredoo Group, we are committed to building the digital infrastructure that powers the economies of tomorrow. Enabling PayPal services in the Maldives through mFaisaa reflects that vision in action by expanding access to trusted digital financial services, unlocking new economic opportunities, and supporting the country’s broader digital transformation ambitions.”

Shadi Qawasmi, Managing Director and CEO of Ooredoo Maldives, stated:

“This partnership reflects our continued investment in the Maldives and our ability to bring the best of our global ecosystem to local communities. By enabling PayPal services through mFaisaa, we are helping entrepreneurs, SMEs, freelancers, and creators take their ideas, products, and services beyond our borders. This is more than a payments partnership; it is about empowering economic growth, fostering innovation, and building a Digital Maldives that is connected to the world.”

The partnership also underscores Ooredoo Fintech’s growing role in shaping the future of digital financial services in the Maldives.

Mirko Giacco, CEO of Ooredoo Fintech International, stated:

By enabling PayPal services through mFaisaa, we are making it easier for individuals and small businesses in the Maldives to participate in the global digital economy, receive international payments, and access new opportunities beyond traditional market boundaries. The Government’s Maldives 2.0 vision reflects a clear commitment to expanding trusted digital connectivity, and we are proud to contribute to those ambitions through this partnership. At PayPal, we believe that secure and seamless digital financial experiences play an important role in helping people connect with opportunities in the global economy"
